On the evening of August 13, about 100,000 candles are placed along the approach from Ichi-no-hashi Bridge to Kobo Daishi (Kukai)’s Mausoleum, lighting up the nearly 2km long road.
This festival is held to pray for the souls of ancestors resting in Okuno-in.
The candle light flickering in this sacred site creates a fantastic ambiance.
