Cash is the main form of payment used for goods and services rendered in many places throughout Japan. For Koyasan, this is particularly the case, and there are many locations that unfortunately still do not accept credit or debit cards. As such, it is advisable that you bring the appropriate amount of Japanese yen (in cash) with you during your visit.
