How to Use the Public Payphone
There are two types of public payphones available in Koyasan, which are analog and digital. There are only a few differences between the two types of phones available, and these differences are described in the table below.

Phone use during normal operation | Lift the receiver, insert money or telephone card, and then dial the number. | |
Emergency Use | When there is an emergency you do not need money or a telephone card to use the phone. Simply lift the receiver and dial 1-1-0. | When there is an emergency you do not need money or a telephone card to use the phone. Simply lift the receiver, and press the Emergency button, and then dial 1-1-0. |
Using the phone during a power outage | Phone cards cannot be used during a power outage. *During a power outage, if there are multiple telephones at the same location some of the phones may not work. | When there is a power outage the red light will not be lit, which indicates that the telephone is unable to accept a phone. |
Toll-Free Use (The telephones may be toll-free during an emergency) | You do not need money or a telephone card.
