The establishment of the Danjo Garan Sacred Temple Complex dates back to the days of Kobo Daishi, who founded Koyasan. This area was established as the center for the study and practice of an esoteric Buddhism known as Shingon Buddhism. Over 1,200 years have passed since the establishment of the Danjo Garan Sacred Temple Complex, and these holy grounds are considered one of the holiest site in all of Koyasan.
